Typographic considerations
Jan. 27th, 2007 04:10 pmAfter ten years of Frankensteining my computer to keep it vaguely up to date, I wiped the slate clean last year and bought a new PC from a big-name mail-order company. I have yet to get it set up exactly the way I want it. Among many other things, it came with a bunch of fonts installed which I doubt I'll ever use: Croobie, GlooGun, Jokewood, Poornut. Ugh. Luckily my printer driver CDs contain a bunch of good, classic typefaces. Speaking of which, here's a German list of the top 100 typefaces. I can't say I disagree with any of the choices, or feel that there are glaring omissions. I would've put Electra, Bauer Topic, and Eagle Bold in there. Probably some others, if I took the time to think about it. Maybe Windsor, too (you've seen it in Woody Allen movie credits and on the cover of Kate Bush's first album). If one were interested in typography in an amateur capacity, one might want to click through this list, even if one does not read German.
